North Shore District Court - Recladding
Working within a live court environment
Maintaining full court operations throughout construction was a critical requirement of this project. Watts & Hughes delivered the works with minimal disruption by applying proven methodologies for working within highly sensitive, occupied environments.
We developed a detailed construction programme early in the project, carefully sequencing works to manage weather risks and avoid interference with daily court activities. This programme was regularly reviewed and refined in collaboration with the client’s representatives to ensure optimal outcomes.
Close coordination with court staff and the Ministry of Justice was essential. We provided clear forward planning, including weekly updates and 4–6 month lookahead schedules aligned to upcoming hearings and operational requirements.
To minimise disruption, much of the work was undertaken outside standard court hours.
A combination of physical controls and site management practices ensured safety and continuity of operations:
● Full building wraps to protect against weather-related risks
● Acoustic, floor-to-ceiling internal hoardings to segregate work areas
● Clear wayfinding, safety signage, and regular cleaning to maintain a professional environment for staff and the public
Through careful planning, stakeholder collaboration, and flexible delivery, Watts & Hughes successfully completed the works while maintaining uninterrupted court operations.
